Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford is committed to furthering diversity, equity and inclusion because all young people deserve the right to be themselves, to feel a sense of belonging, and to have access to opportunities that support their great future.
Through our Academic Success programs, we are developing globally competitive graduates.
These programs are designed to ensure that all Club members graduate from high school on time, ready for post-secondary education and a 21st century career.
This includes specialized programming in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) which encourages creativity and critical thinking.
Power Hour: Making Minutes Count is a homework-help and academic achievement program which encourages Club members to become self-directed learners through daily homework help and tutoring. Each session helps youth complete their homework assignments for the day or engage in tutoring and mentorship programs with the support of trained, caring staff and volunteers. With a reward-based model, members are encouraged to complete their assignments and take part in a variety of other engaging and educational activities to develop their skills even further.
Our STEAM – science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics- programs offer innovative and creative activities for members fostering a love of exploration and growth and building interest in future STEAM-related careers. In the MakerSpace, members have an opportunity to explore their own interests, learning how to use tools and materials to develop and market their own creative projects. Our art programs spark creativity and self-confidence by teaching youth to play a musical instrument, perform a dramatic play, learn to dance, record and produce their own music and hone their photography, videography, drawing, painting and mixed media skills.
Ultimate journey is one of Boys & Girls Clubs’ oldest and most successful STEAM programs. It was developed in partnership with the National Parks Service and recognizes that in order to imagine great futures for generations to come, we need to work toward a great future for our planet. It introduces youth, ages 9-13, to aspects of environmental stewardship and cultivates an awareness and appreciation of the natural wonders that surround young people.
Diplomas2Degrees (d2D) is a college readiness program which provides a range of services to guide Club members as they work toward high school graduation and prepare for post-secondary education and career success. It helps youth develop short and long-term goals while familiarizing them with their options after graduation including college, trade schools or careers. It also assists teens in touring colleges, securing financial aid and fostering supportive relationships with adults who can guide them through their college experience and beyond.
Learning doesn't end with the school day! We're making academics a priority and our members are excelling from the Club to the classroom!
