Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford is committed to furthering diversity, equity and inclusion because all young people deserve the right to be themselves, to feel a sense of belonging, and to have access to opportunities that support their great future.
Character & Leadership programs help youth become responsible, caring citizens with the skills necessary to participate in the democratic process and make decisions based on ethics, integrity and humility.
Through these programs, our Club members also develop leadership skills and gain opportunities to make decisions and contribute to the success of their Clubs and the community.
The Youth of the Year is the premiere recognition program for young leaders across the Boys & Girls Clubs of America movement. This signature effort fosters a new generation of leaders who are fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world. The Youth of the Year is an ambassador and voice for their Club, state, region and the nation. Through the youth of the year process, members learn to develop and recognize their own leadership abilities and gain the confidence to make meaningful change in their communities. As part of this signature effort, up-and-coming leaders are recognized as the Junior Youth of the Year. This program fosters emerging leadership abilities in members ages 10-13 while providing them the foundation they need for advanced leadership development and to participate in the Youth of the Year experience.
Keystone Club is a dynamic program which provides young people, ages 14 to 18, with valuable leadership and service experiences. Teens participate in three areas: academic success, career exploration and community service. Club members elect officers and engage in a broad spectrum of activities designed to engage with people in a multitude of communities, including teens across the country, explore relevant issues and develop skills to support and enhance service to themselves and others.
Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs for youth ages 11 to 13. Members learn about the democratic process by electing officers and working together to implement activities. Together they participate in service-learning experiences and projects related to health, education and social recreation.
Youth for Unity engages members and parents in activities that promote diversity and combat prejudice, bigotry and discrimination. It teaches young people the skills they need to thrive in a globally connected society and world. Youth for Unity consists of a comprehensive, broad-based set of programmatic interventions that build the capacity to help Club members appreciate themselves as unique and special individuals, understand our society’s diversity, recognize bias and unfairness and take personal leadership in confronting discrimination.
