CJTS Boys Club
1225 Silver Street, Middletown, CT 06457
The Boys & Girls Club of Hartford implemented operations at the Connecticut Juvenile Training School, in a first-ever collaboration nearly a decade ago. We are serving more than 100 boys, ages 13-19, who are in short and/or long-term juvenile detention. CJTS Boys Club offers the boys a Targeted Re-entry program where Club staff members will work with the young males, through a transition phase, and continue the process once the young man re-enters the community where a Boys & Girls Club is located. Club members participate in programs such as Law Enforcement appreciation and awareness, Fatherhood Forever, which teaches these men how to prepare for fatherhood when they don’t have an example of their own, Passport to Manhood, Career Launch, and Money Matters to help build skills necessary for being a productive citizen. One of the groups that is captive to the body of our members is the Straight Talk Group where the young men open up about things in their life that they’ve never shared with others. It all starts with building trust and following through with our commitment to their well being.
Unit Director: Steven Blocker
Steven Blocker is affectionately known as “Mr. Block” by his Club kids. He has been with CJTS for 10 years and with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford his entire life.
Mr. Blocker is a graduate of St. Thomas More Prep School and attended Middlesex Junior College. He strives for a sincere commitment to input truth into the lives of young males. “I believe experience will touch the population that Boys and Girls Clubs serve at CJTS, and when you give from the heart and stay consistent it’s hard to fail the young men in need. I tell the young men that are losing the battle in their communities the truth so they can win the game of life.”
